Game analytics site GitHyp today posted an update on Mediatonic’s new Battle Royale party game, Fall Guys. The Takeshi’s Castle/Wipeout-like multiplayer title managed to hit a peak of 114K concurrent players on Steam this past Friday, making it the most successful launch ever for Mediatonic and for the publisher, Devolver Digital.
Something that’s even more impressive for this little indie game is that it also managed to get high in the charts on Twitch. At the time of writing this, Fall Guys is currently in the number three spot, right under Fortnite and League of Legends, which is hard to do, especially with there being so many other online-centric multiplayer titles competing for the same market.
Fall Guys launched on Aug 4 for PC and PS4, with the latter having the option to download it for free if they are subscribed to Sony’s PS Plus service.
The Battle Royale title is online-only and pits 60 players against one another in a series of challenges and minigames. After each round, several players get eliminated until there is just one winner.
Fall Guys does have microtransactions as well, but they are merely for cosmetics and no other features or perks.
