Along with some of its gory gameplay, Mortal Kombat 11’s official story prologue trailer was revealed today at an event held by NetherRealm Studios.

“Raiden has upset the balance of history with the death of Shinnok. Tired of Earthrealm’s defiance, Kronika, The Keeper of Time will bring order to the universe through any means necessary,” reads its YouTube description.

The trailer features a shackled Shinnok berating Raiden. Raiden, with glowing red eyes, sends electricity coursing through Shinnok’s body from a distance before approaching him. Raiden eventually decapitates Shinnok in the brutal fashion that we’ve come to know and love of the series.

Raiden then teleports to his exit, and we get a glimpse of Kronika. We still know very little about this character, but hearing her whispers and watching as she approaches the bleeding head of Shinnok is a sight worth seeing for yourself.

If the prologue trailer didn’t satisfy your need for blood and decapitations, Mortal Kombat 11’s official fatalities trailer surely will. In it, you’ll see Sonya, Raiden, Sub-Zero, and Baraka finishing off opponents in some of the most savage ways yet.

Mortal Kombat 11 arrives on Apr. 23 for Xbox One, Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. Closed beta starts on Mar. 28, available to customers who pre-order. Pre-ordering will also unlock Shao Khan as a playable character. You can check out the official Mortal Kombat 11 Steam page for more details.
