During the Unreal Engine 5 reveal within the programming of Summer Game Fest, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney and his team explained how the new features will apply to various platforms.
We hear that Unreal Engine 5 is, of course, going to run across all supported platforms including next-gen consoles, current-gen consoles, and all the way to mobile.
One of the key figures Epic has been working on is the ability to build the content once and then play it across devices.
While high-end hardware that will be able to run Nanite directly will be able to run games at the fidelity we just saw. On the other hand, there will be tools to scale the content down on less powerful devices like iOS or Android.
Sweeney clarified that Epic “loves all of our babies” and they won’t make comparisons or play favorites between platforms. The Nanite technology showcased today will run across all next-gen consoles and high-end PCs.
The idea is to be able to build high-end console games with no sacrifices and then bring them to other devices by scaling them down, reaching a much-larger audience than just the hardcore gamers.
During the same livestream, Sweeney had high praise to share for the upcoming PS5.
