Space Haven offers one of the more thorough space exploration sim experiences out there, though sometimes it can be unclear on how you’re supposed to carry out the more crucial activities. As such, you’re probably wondering how to Salvage in Space Haven, which is why we’re here to help with a guide.
How to Salvage in Space Haven
As with many of Space Haven’s other mechanics, Salvaging is a fairly simple process once you know what to do and how to do it.
To start, you’ll need to find a derelict ship or other craft you can salvage from. These will pop up from time to time as you wander the cosmos, and will appear as blacked-out portions of the map until you’ve explored them.
When you happen upon one, you can travel to it with a small crew via a shuttle craft. This is done by clicking on crew members to add them to the shuttle craft, clicking on the shuttle and, with the shuttle selected, clicking on the derelict ship.
Once the shuttle docks onto the ship, you can then explore said ship with your crew. Be warned, though, that some ships will have enemies you’ll need to defeat before the ship will count as fully explored.
Once you’ve cleared out any enemies and explored the entirety of the ship, you’ll then have the option to Salvage its resources. This is done by clicking on a prompt to the right side of the screen, which will then open a Salvage sub-menu on the bottom left side of the screen.
From this sub-menu, you can choose whether to start breaking down items on the ship or transfer items directly to your ship, and who of your crew you want to carry out said action.
And that’s all there is to it really. This process will repeat for each of the ships you’ll encounter in Space Haven, and while it may seem cumbersome at first, it becomes easier to do with practice.

So, to recap how to salvage in Space Haven:
- Find a derelict ship
It’ll appear as a blacked-out portion of the game’s map.
- Send a crew to the ship via a shuttle craft
This is done by selecting crew members from your ship, assigning them to your shuttle craft, clicking on the filled shuttle craft and then clicking on the derelict ship to send the crew out on an exploratory mission
- Explore the entirety of the ship
The difficulty of and time needed to accomplish this will vary based on whether or not enemies are on the ship.
- Click on the Salvage prompt on the right side of the screen
Doing so will open up the Salvage sub-menu at the bottom left of the screen, and you can select what from the derelict ship you wish to salvage or transfer to your ship.
