Final Fantasy 7 Remake Hard Mode: How to Unlock, What’s Different

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is one of the most eagerly anticipated video game releases of 2020, and while it does only cover the Midgar story arc from the original game, you can rest assured that there’s a ton of things to do here. In fact, once you unlock Hard Mode, you’ll be able to access new challenges and items, and this adds another level of replayability to the game. Here’s what you need to know about Hard Mode in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Unlocking Hard Mode in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

First off, to unlock Hard Mode, you’ll need to beat the game. Immediately after rolling credits, the game will take you to the character screen and inform you that the new difficulty level has been unlocked. From then on, you’ll be able to select it whenever you revisit chapters you’ve already played.

To select a chapter, make sure you first save your game after the end credits, then choose the System option, and the Chapter Select option. From here, choose the chapter you want to replay, then choose your desired difficulty option.

You’ll be able to select Hard Mode, but do note that if you want to change your difficulty partway through the chapter, you’ll need to restart that entire chapter.

What’s Different

The main difference in Hard Mode in Final Fantasy 7 Remake is that you’ll no longer be able to use items in battle. This means that you’ll need to rely solely on Healing and Revival Materia if you get in trouble. In addition to that, you can only restore HP and MP at rest points and benches, making the game much more challenging in terms of keeping your party alive.

In addition to that, enemies will also be tougher. However, there is a silver lining to all this. Playing the game on Hard Mode will allow you to collect manuscripts that were not available on the other difficulty levels.

These manuscripts grant you extra SP, allowing you to level up your weapons at a much faster rate. They can be obtained by completing side quests and beating bosses in the story, so you’ll basically have to complete the game again on Hard Mode if you want to collect every manuscript in the game.

That’s all you need to know about Hard Mode in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
