Pokemon Go’s Anniversary Update Brings New Shiny Pokemon

Jun 27 marks Pokemon Go’s third anniversary and with it comes a number of new and exciting additions to the game.

Starting on June 28 at 1 p.m. PDT, players will be able to encounter and come across new Shiny Alolan Pokemon. So, be on the lookout for fancy Rattata, Sandshrew, Vulpix, Diglett, Meowth, Geodude, Grimer, and Exeggutor. You’ll also find new avatar items in the Style Shop themed off of the team leaders’ personal styles.

From June 28 to July 6 at 1 p.m. PDT, a Pikachu decked out in a party hat has a chance of showing up once per day when you try and take a Go Snapshot photo. Those stylish little fellows will also be available to hatch from 7 km eggs.

With Jump-Start Research, Pokemon Go has also introduced a way to help trainers on their adventures. You’ll now have the ability to complete Special Research for rewards that will help players either starting out on their journeys or veterans. However, this research is only available this summer for players level 10 or higher. These benefits start at June 28 at 1 p.m. PDT and continue to Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. PDT.

During the same time period, you’ll be able to take down Raid Bosses faster and with extra bonuses as rewards. Trading Pokemon will also cost 1/4 less Stardust.
