Recharge Your Beam Katana Obsessively

Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, open world

One of the key things to keep in mind in Travis Strikes Again is that his Beam Katana weapon has a battery. It’s not going to recharge all by itself, either, so after every single fight, just get in the habit of recharging it yourself.

This isn’t a difficult thing to do. Just press down the left stick (L3) and then shake your controller vigorously until the battery meter in the top left-hand corner of the screen is refilled.

Why refill after every fight? Because the damn thing tends to drain its charge incredibly quickly. Charging it up as soon as you’ve cleared one wave of enemies just means you’re perfectly prepared for the next wave, rather than having to find space mid-battle to recharge without taking damage.

That might not sound all that difficult to do, but trust us in the latter stages, enemies become far more ruthless in their pursuit of you. Don’t give them the chance and charge that Beam Katana as soon as you’ve finished using it in Travis Strikes Again. It only takes a couple seconds!

Spend Time Experimenting and Combining Skill Chips

Both Travis and Bad Man are essentially ‘clean slates’ for you to tweak and adapt to your playstyle when you first start Travis Strikes Again. This customization comes in the form of the skills that you can find and assign to them within the game.

Many of these offer incredibly powerful and useful offensive moves that’ll give you the upper-hand when surrounded by countless enemies in Travis Strikes Again. However, by spending a little time experimenting, you’ll find that some become far more useful than others.

A particular highlight of the skill chips on offer in Travis Strikes Again is the Heavy Chip. This creates a radius around your position that slows down enemies within it, allowing you to quickly nip around deal out damage or avoid any incoming attacks.

Combining the Heavy Chip with a follow up of your ∀ Skill Chip a little further away should give you time to heal up without being bombarded by enemies. Alternatively, it could be used in tandem with the Strike Freedom Chip to prevent enemies from simply walking out of the aim of the slow-firing laser.

Likewise, the Shining Chip can be used to group enemies together (and deal damage), before you use the Wing Chip to shock them all with an electric attack that affects the area around targeted characters, maximizing its effectiveness.

Spending the time to check the new skill chips you’ve unlocked and using them with others is a great way to keep ahead of the difficulty curve in Travis Strikes Again. Plus, it makes you feel like a badass, and that’s always a bonus!

Jump and Dodge, Your Life Depends On it

Travis Strikes Again Tips and Tricks

It can be incredibly easy to fall into the mindset of simply spamming the Y button on your Nintendo Switch and light attacking your way through waves of enemies. Sometimes, sure, this will work. But when you reach some of the later Death Balls, things become a lot more hectic.

While Dodging (A) will seem like the go-to for getting out of harm’s way quickly. Another handy hint to keep in mind is that a light jump attack (B and Y) will see your character not only avoid any damage from AOE or ground pound attacks, it’ll also see you quickly dart out of your immediate location.

All we can say is that when things start to get trickier, especially in the boss battles from Death Ball four (Golden Dragon GP) onwards, make sure you’re using your jump and dodge abilities. Failing to do so will often leave you a sitting duck, or simply give you no means of avoiding taking damage. Seriously, your life depends on it.

Don’t Forget to Level Up

As you hack and slash your way through endless amounts of enemies in Travis Strikes Again, it can be easy to forget that you’re actually racking up a healthy amount of EXP, too.

This EXP is used to level up either Travis or Bad Man, and experience you earn with one can be spent on either, so you’re never locked into a specific character.

During our solo playthrough, we invested all of our exp in leveling up Travis. Each time you level up a character their max health and attack power increases. If you’ve not done this for quite a while, be sure to check if you can level up your character.

To do this, simply press the + button and then select the Lv. UP and Skills option from the menu. Go down to the Lv. UP bar as shown in the screenshot above, and hold down the A button to pour your experience into the meter. Now you’ll be all leveled up and ready to take on whatever challenges Travis Strikes Again throws your way.
