Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn continues to prove a boon for Square Enix, passing another huge milestone shortly after its five year anniversary.
In a statement released by the developer, it was revealed the MMORPG now has over 14 million registered players across the world, with 4 million added this year alone. Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of the game, commented on the title’s success, as well as the team’s dedication to rebuilding the title after the disastrous launch of the original Final Fantasy XIV.
“Although the original FINAL FANTASY XIV failed to meet expectations, through the support of people in the media, the companies we have worked with, and of course our dedicated players, we were able to launch A Realm Reborn in 2013,” Yoshida said. “FFXIV was indeed reborn, and over the course of these past five years, it has grown to become the title that we all know and love today. I cannot thank you enough.”
Released Aug. 27, 2013, A Realm Reborn has seen multiple expansions since its launch. It has also featured a recent crossover with the Monster Hunter franchise, offering players the chance to hunt down the Rathalos for a limited time.
