One Piece: Burning Blood – How to Use Awakening

Unleash your true power.

In One Piece: Burning Blood, players will be able to use many of the most powerful pirates and marines from the One Piece manga and anime series. If you’ve seen the anime or read the manga, you undoubtedly know about how each character can find more inner strength when they’re in a pinch. One Piece: Burning Blood allows players to do the same with the Awakening mechanic.

On the bottom corner of your screen you’ll see your Burning Gauge. This meter fills as you connect with attacks and is used to pull of certain techniques. If you let it fill to max, it will start to glow. At this point, all you have to do is hit the R3 button on your controller (click in the right thumbstick), to enter Awakened mode.

This mode is different for each character, and correlates to how you’d remember them from the manga and anime. For instance, Luffy activates his Fourth Gear, turning into the domineering Bounceman.

When using Awakening, your move set will change for as long as it is active. Triangle/”Y”, and Circle/”B” will become powerful special attacks, and your movements may change as well depending on your form. Players will also gain access to a powerful Ultimate Attack. As long as you have some Burning Gauge left (it quickly depletes while using Awakening), just hit the R3 button again. This will trigger a huge attack capable of removing over half of a full health bar. Do note that it also wipes out whatever is left of your gauge, so it’s best to save this for last.

Another thing you should be aware of is that all of your fighters share the same Burning Gauge in Burning Blood. So, if you decide to use Awakening, then switch characters, that new fighter will be unable to perform any techniques that require the gauge (such as the different Unity Attacks).

As long as you’re able to get attacks off, you should have no problem filling up your Burning Gauge during a fight, so feel free to use your Awakening whenever you feel you want to move things along quickly.
