After a long quiet period on the game, Ninja Theory announced that their upcoming title Hellblade would be getting a small name change. The game is adding a subtitle and is now known as Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.
Today in a post on the PlayStation Blog, Ninja Theory released a new trailer for Hellblade showing off Senua’s new look. Dominic Matthews from Ninja Theory talked about how it was their aim to make Senua one of the most believable characters in a video game.
“Senua is a Celtic Warrior who journeys into Viking heartland while struggling with trauma and psychosis. It is important for us to portray the physical, emotional, and mental trials of her quest in both the character model and the representation of her reality.”
Apparently, the voices that Senua hears in the trailer have been recorded binaurally, which means if you listen to them with headphones it will sound like they are in a 3D space around you. Matthews also notes the impressive motion capture technology on display.
“We are showcasing a world-first: a new technology that allows our actress to perform the scene live and in real-time directly within the game world. As far as we know no one has done this with a character of such fidelity before.”
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is Ninja Theory’s first independently developed and self-published game, and it’s being made by a small team of 16 people. The game is planned to release on PS4 and Xbox One later this year. What do you think about Hellblade’s new trailer and technology on display?
