Shuhei Yoshida Confirms The Last Guardian Really Has Gone Gold

The long wait for The Last Guardian has been riddled with harsh critique, widespread skepticism and whole lot of eager toe-tapping, but Sony Interactive Entertainment exec Shuhei Yoshida has finally confirmed that The Last Guardian has gone gold.

The news seemed to break prematurely at first when Sony Interactive Entertainment producer Jun Yoshino took to Twitter with a short tweet that sent fans of the game into a confused and anxious whirlwind.

“Gone gold. Waddup.” He tweeted but the message was deleted in about an hour just as news started to spread through social media.

Fans immediately began to fear that perhaps somehow the message didn’t mean what they hoped it did.

Thanks to Yoshida, there is no longer a reason to second guess.

The Last Guardian has gone gold, which means primary game development is finally complete.

The old saying goes that anything truly worth having is worth waiting for and if the amount of time you have to wait for it is in any indication of how much it’s worth, The Last Guardian just might be the game of the year.

It’s been nearly a decade since the development team first started working on the game back in 2007 and a string of delays made it feel like the game would never actually come to life.

Even after we all witnessed the game’s progress at E3 2016, it still felt like little more than an elusive dream.

It also brought the start of harsh feedback that suggested the game didn’t seem to make enough adjustments for the generation jump from PS3 to PS4.

Skepticism aside, fans couldn’t be any happier about the news and Yoshida is even embracing the hilarity that has ensued on social media as a result of the long wait.

The Last Guardian is now scheduled to be released on December 6.

We can only hope that the long wait won’t duplicate the disappointment that came from the 15-year wait for Duke Nukem Forever.
