Playtonic Games has released the patch notes for the first major update of Yooka-Laylee since its launch last April. The developer says the update is coming to the PC version later this month, with console versions “shortly after.”

The biggest change in the update involves cutscenes, allowing players to skip cutscenes with a button or speed through dialogue by holding the same button. The “gibberish” dialogue that all the characters speak can also be shorter with a new sound effects option, or turned off completely with the new speech volume setting.

Camera controls have been improved in the update with less scripted angles, added settings for first-person aiming control, and an optional camera mode with minimal assist. Controls for character transformations, flying, and minecart sections have been improved as well. You can read the patch notes in full detail here, including a sample of the new pause menu music.

Playtonic Games also gave an update on the Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee in the post, saying it has entered the console-specific testing phase and a final release date should come “shortly after” if the build is not completely broken. The studio said the update coming later this month will be included on day one for the Nintendo Switch version.
