Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Install Size Similar to The New Order

Not too big, but not too small.

While Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is the first entry by Machine Games launching solely on current-gen platforms, it will have the same file size as the cross-gen game Wolfenstein: The New Order.

As revealed on the US Microsoft Store, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus weighs approximately 46.28GB on the Xbox One. In comparison, Wolfenstein: The New Order weighs 44.55GB on the Xbox One. Aside from the file size varying per platform, it’s worth noting that this doesn’t include any day one patches.

Both games having the same file size is surprising, especially when you consider that Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus runs on the iD Tech 6 engine while the previous game is powered by iD Tech 5. The newer iD Tech engine touts to run games on a silky smooth 60FPS with real-time dynamic lighting. While both engines use “MegaTextures,” iD Tech 6 has higher quality textures. Developer Machine Games possibly had better compression for The New Colossus to keep the file size at a minimum.

It will be interesting how Machine Games chooses to handle the Switch release of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, considering the memory constraints of cartridges. In retrospect, the Switch release of DOOM will have the full single-player campaign in the cartridge while the multiplayer aspect will be made as an optional download.

You can start killing Nazis once again when Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus launches on Oct. 27 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Switch gamers can also join in on the action sometime in 2018.
