This world is huge.

Capcom is bringing their action-rpg back to consoles with Monster Hunter World and are making the game easily accessible to all newcomers, well, more accessible – Monster Hunter is not easy. Monster Hunter has seen some iterations on the Wii, Wii U, and Switch (Japan only) but this is the first time in a while that the series has been on PlayStation and marks the first time that it’s been on an Xbox.

A YouTuber by the name of Arekkz, sat down with Monster Hunter World director and producer, Yuya Tokuda and Ryozo Tsujimoto, and spoke with them on the game. They had some new information to share that is making the wait for this game that much harder.

At the official announcement of the game during E3 earlier this year, we already learned that World would be Monster Hunter at it’s core, but certain things would be different to make an overall smoother experience that veterans of the series would enjoy while also making it less confusing for newcomers. With bigger and seamless maps, drop-in/drop-out online multiplayer, and voice acting, Monster Hunter Worlds will definitely be the biggest title in the franchise thus far.

In the interview, we learn a few tidbits of information on the title, like the fact that your Palico companions will be able to make friends with some of the smaller monsters, making them temporary party members that will aid you in battles; there will also be more collaborations like how Capcom worked alongside Nintendo to put in Link and Samus costumes in past entries. Tokuda also speaks on how high-leveled story quests work:

“We do have the same sort of Low Rank, High Rank structure, but in the older titles when you go to High Rank, the story was no longer a concern, but this time we want to make sure the story continues on a thread throughout High Rank. One big difference in the structure is that there’s no longer a separation between village hall and gathering hall quests—that distinction doesn’t exist anymore. You get a quest and you can choose whether to play it solo or online.”

Monster Hunter Worlds is set to launch in early 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and later on PC. The Japanese release of the title will only be available for the PS4.
