Following an initial report from Gamasutra, it appears that Telltale Games has suffered massive layoffs and has cancelled all of its future projects aside from The Walking Dead Season 4. According to US Gamer, 25 staff will remain as a skeleton crew to finish off Season 4 of The Walking Dead, with the other 225 staff members cast into unemployment. With roughly 90% of staff laid off, the future of the studio has been cast in peril.
According to the initial reports surfacing, staff members online started the cascade of news by stating they were no longer employed by the company, who has financially been in dire straits since the middle of last year. Back in November, the studio laid off 90 employees as rumors circulated of a toxic work environment. Telltale’s former CEO, Kevin Bruner, also sued the studio for financial damages in June of this year, casting the developer’s financial future into greater doubt.
Telltale had big projects in the pipeline, including Season 2 of The Wolf Among Us, as well as the possible Stranger Things venture, which seemed a shoo-in for the company to recoup some financial losses.
No official confirmation has come from the studio as of yet, but the story is developing.
