How to Get a Dog or Cat in Stardew Valley

Recommended Videos

When you’re starting up Stardew Valley for the first time, you’re given a character creation screen. Here is where the most important question ever asked in a video game will be asked: Are you a dog or a cat person?

Answering this will dictate what kind of pet you’ll have during your time in Pelican Town. A couple of days in, depending on whether you answered dog or cat, you’ll be brought a little stray companion. You’ll have the chance to say whether or not you want to keep them, and you’ll be set with a little buddy for the rest of your farming tenure.

Cats and dogs don’t do much for you besides just frolic about and provide you with a sense of companionship in your starting days when you likely won’t have any livestock. You can fill up their bowl with water with your watering can and interact with them for a little heart, but that’s about it. But they sure are cute, right?
