That’s right, PvZ: Garden Warfare 2 actually has a story, and it’s quite funny. But you don’t want to play it just to get a few laughs. Each side of the story will give you a good feel of each of the modes offered in the game, as well as show you a bunch of the areas available in the open hub world with a guiding hand.

On top of the learning, you’ll be able to rake in quite a bit of coin. Coins are needed to purchase items and new characters so you’ll want as many as possible before you begin to tackle the other elements of the game.

Explore the Backyard Battleground

There are a lot of areas in the hub world of PvZ: Garden Warfare 2. You have docks, parks, buildings, sewers, caves, and more. Each of them houses secrets for you to find and chests for you to open. It’s a good idea to get a lay of the land since you’ll spend a lot of time here (either exploring or fighting with friends), and it’s just fun to hang around.

Keep in mind that you’ll need Stars to open anything up out in the Backyard Battleground. With that in mind, make sure that you…

Take on Quests From the Billboard

You can take on quests from the billboard located in your base. These quests range from playing a specific mode to using a certain character’s ability. None of them are exceptionally difficult, and they offer great rewards.

One of the rewards that will definitely make your life easier in PvZ: Garden Warfare 2 are the Billboard Pins. After every five you collect, you’ll get an increased XP multiplier that counts towards all of your characters. With over 100 of them to level up, you’ll definitely want the assistance.

These quests also provide a bit of incentive to try out other activities and characters, so that isn’t too shabby either.

Import Your PvZ: Garden Warfare Characters

Plants Vs. Zombies

PopCap Games knows that you put a lot of time into unlocking all of those characters in the first game, so the studio is allowing you to import almost all of them into PvZ: Garden Warfare 2. With the base version of each class being useful but lacking that extra oomph, this is sure to give you a head-start in the war against your enemies.

To import your older characters, make sure you’re using the same EA account as you used in the previous game (it doesn’t matter what platform you played on), then head to the mailbox on your base. Once you interact with the mailbox, find the message regarding imports and hit “Y” on the Xbox controller or Triangle on the DualShock 4.

Try Out Each Character When You First Start Out

There are 14 available characters for you to use when you first start PvZ: Garden Warfare 2. It’s a good idea to give each and every one a test run to figure out who you’re most comfortable with on each side. Since teamwork is an integral part of the online modes, you’ll want to support your comrades to the best of your ability while also having fun.

So don’t pick a character simply because you feel that you have to. Instead, take your time and find the one that speaks to your play style so you can be more of a benefit to those around you.

Don’t Forget to Promote Your Characters

When one of your characters hits level 10, you can promote them. This resets that character’s level but unlocks a new plaque as well as grants the opportunity to earn more perks. Your Player Rank is directly tied to the levels of your characters, so you’ll want to promote in order to keep earning levels.

You’re able to promote characters by entering their corresponding hall of records (located on the bases) and finding the bobblehead of the character you want to upgrade. Choose the promote option and you’re done.

Turf Takeover Offers Great Rewards

Turf Takeover is one of the multiplayer modes in PvZ: Garden Warfare 2, tasking one team of 12 with invading as the other team defends. Because there is no kill score, there is no cap on how much XP you can earn, and there are a lot of XP bonuses to be found. This particular mode is especially fruitful if you manage to be placed on the invading team, since winning will require a longer match.

At the end of a round, it isn’t too surprising to see your character has leveled up 2-3 times and to see over 20,000 Coins fatten up your purse. While all modes offer the opportunity to do the same, none do it quite as easily as Turf Takeover.

Don’t Spend All of Your Coins on Phenomenal Sticker Packs

There are several sticker packs that can be purchased in PvZ: Garden Warfare 2. The most expensive one is the Phenomenal Sticker Pack, which gives you a brand new character. While it is quite tempting to just buy characters outright, you’ll miss out on getting useful item and customization stickers.

Items can spell the difference between winning and losing a hectic match, offering extra attack opportunities and defensive capabilities. And customization stickers? Well, who doesn’t want to look cool?

These tips will help you get ready for the war to come. So brace yourself, save your coins, and get your army ready for PvZ: Garden Warfare 2.
