NieR: Automata – Changing AI Behavior

Recommended Videos

For most of your journey in NieR: Automata, you’ll be accompanied by a fellow YoRHa unit, 9S. 9S can be extremely helpful in battle, but only if you let him. By default, his AI behavior will be set to Balanced, where he uses a mix of long and close ranged attacks in combat. However, if you want him to pull his weight a little more, you can also set the behavior to Aggressive, where he’ll attack all enemies in sight even if they’re non-hostile. You can also get him to focus on long or close ranged attacks, depending on your own personal play style. If you’d like to go it alone with minimal assistance, you can set his behavior to Passive, and he’ll participate very little in battle.

To change his AI behavior, simply walk up to him and hold the interact button (circle). This will bring up a list of options that you can choose from, allowing you to determine his behavior in the game. Do note that if you set him to Aggressive, he’ll attack the animals as well, which might not be a good thing if you like using them as mounts.
