Activision has announced that microtransactions have been introduced to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and will be usable in multiplayer game modes.

They are called Call of Duty Points, a rather unimaginative name, and there are four tiers that can be purchased. $2 will get you 200 Call of Duty points, while for those who want to splash their cash you can get 5000 points for $40.

These can be used to purchase Vials of Liquid Divinium in the cooperative zombies mode, while for the multiplayer fans they will be able to use Call of Duty points to get Supply Drops. Supply Drops give the player 3 random cosmetic items with different rarities, including weapon skins, character outfits, and player taunts.

This comes at the same time as an update to the Black Market in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which adds a variety of brand new items into the Supply Drops. The most interesting additions are new melee weapons like the Butterfly Knife, Wrench, and Brass Knuckles. They will supposedly feel different, although will not give the player a bigger advantage over someone without them.

The Call of Duty points will be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, and for a small period of time returning players will be given a gift of 200 points to use. The microtransactions will not be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game however.
