Before her death on Dec. 27, Carrie Fisher had finished filming Star Wars: Episode XIII releasing on Dec. 15 of this year. However, rumors were circulating regarding Carrie Fisher’s inclusion in the eventual Episode IX.

In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, character Wilhuff Tarkin was recreated via CGI with the likeness of late actor Peter Cushing, while a younger version of Leia was digitally created to mimic the character’s appearance in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Lucasfilm stated, “Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.”
