Survival game DayZ has been in Early Access for quite some time, and now it’s finally going to be coming out for real at some point in 2018. Bohemia Interactive made the announcement earlier this week, clarifying that both a beta release and console versions will finally be on the market next year. For a game that most people know as an Early Access darling, this is pretty big news.
But the beta isn’t going to be a “finished” version of the game or anything, as lead producer Eugen Harton clarifies.
“DayZ BETA is not meant to be a feature complete game from our point of view,” he explained. “It’s a start of a platform that will be extended by us, and can be extended by the modding community … By saying platform, I mean an ecosystem where we are able to keep adding things and building the DayZ community from PC BETA onward. We have talked about a number of features over the years that we intend to deliver, but our strongest focus has been put on the core loop of the game … So after the PC BETA of DayZ gets out, we will focus on polishing the core gameplay loop, and adding content — but until we reach 1.0, we want to stay away from expanding the scope of the game further by additional features.”
DayZ has been available as an Early Access title since 2013, so it’s nearing 5 years since the title both debuted. Fans are no doubt ready at this point to move forward. Are you excited to finally get your hands on the game in a more complete state? Let us know in the comments below!
