Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud and Sephiroth Square Off in this Massive Snow Sculpture

NICE.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

This being the winter season, there’s a lot of snow, depending on where you live. To make things better, the people of Hokkaido, Japan hold a yearly Sapporo Snow Festival where people make impressive sculptures with what the Japanese military brings over. One of the big sculptures of the year comes from Square Enix, who decided to recreate Final Fantasy VII’s face off between Cloud Strife and Sephiroth with their entry. Yes, really, and it’s dang impressive.

The detail into the snow sculpture is pretty amazing, from Cloud’s Buster Sword and Sephiroth’s hair to the Final Fantasy VII logo in the background. If you’re wondering why Cloud’s head is so small, the sculptors did so because of the weight of the snow. They had to make his lower back larger so it wouldn’t fall in on itself, and projection mapping was used late at night as well. Not far from the sculpture was a Square Enix shop.

The Final Fantasy VII sculpture and the Sapporo Snow Festival is currently running in Hokkaido from Feb. 6 (today) to the 12th. If you’re in the area (or think you’ll be able to fly out there) and want to see Cloud and Sephiroth in their cold, snowy glory, you’ve got some time to show up and take pictures.
