Earlier in the week, Blizzard put out a new holiday comic for Overwatch called “Reflections.” In the comic, the company revealed that Tracer has a girlfriend named Emily, and while plenty of people were excited, others were confused as to whether or not she was a lesbian or bisexual. In a press statement given to IGN, Blizzard explained that making Tracer a lesbian goes along with making their other Overwatch heroes diverse, which helps “create a richer and deeper overall fictional universeAs with any aspect of our characters’ backgrounds, their sexuality is just one part of what makes our heroes who they are.” The studio has promised that more LGBT characters are coming to the game, and the time-hopping Brit is just the first to do so.

While Tracer was obviously the focus of the Blizzard comic, there were other questions raised by it about other Overwatch characters such as Soldier: 76 and Pharah. You can read Chu’s cryptic answers about them here.
