UK Game Charts: FIFA 18 Claims First Top Spot in 2018

A heated battle.

FIFA 18 has won the race for the first game of 2018 to sit atop the UK game charts. Despite the fact that Call of Duty: WWII ended 2017 on top – a position it had held for some time before then, too – EA’s evergreen sports franchise has wrestled its crown from the popular FPS, which slides to second place.

Grand Theft Auto V makes its usual appearance, this month all the way up in the third spot, and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Origins holds firm in fourth. Surprisingly, despite the backlash over Star Wars Battlefront II’s microtransaction system, slots in at fifth.

The top 20 are as follows:

  1. FIFA 18
  2. Call of Duty: WWII
  3. Grand Theft Auto V
  4. Assassin’s Creed: Origins
  5. Star Wars Battlefront II
  6. The Sims 4
  7. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
  8. Super Mario Odyssey
  9. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  10. Forza Motorsport 7
  11. Rocket League: Collector’s Edition
  12. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  13. Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2
  14. Need for Speed Payback
  15. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
  16. Lego Worlds
  17. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  18. L.A. Noire
  19. Gran Turismo Sport
  20. WWE 2K18

The only game being released this week is The Escapists 2 for the Nintendo Switch, but it seems unlikely that will be enough to shake up the charts moving forward. It’ll be interesting to see if Call of Duty can take back its throne.
