EA Is Making Titanfall 2 a Franchise, Despite Poor Sales

Sticking with it.

Titanfall 2’s only been out for about a week, and despite the glowing reviews that it’s gotten (including ours!), the sales haven’t been all that hot so far. It doesn’t help that it’s launched in between the two big juggernauts that are last week’s Battlefield 1 and this Friday’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and questions about the future of Respawn’s robot-shooter series came aplenty during EA’s investor Q&A. Both bosses Blake Jorgenssen and Andrew Wilson said that they’re standing by their game.

Wilson expects that Respawn will “continue to support and grow” the game’s community through content updates and free DLC over the coming months. “Over time, we’ll work out what the right cadence for next version of Titanfall is and/or any other titles they’re working on.”

Jorgenssen added that EA is working with Respawn to “build a franchise…it’s something that we plan to be working with them on for many, many years to come, and there’s huge opportunity inside of that franchise to continue to expand it. Part of the strategy of building a franchise is you have a long view.”

As for the sales figures themselves? EA says it’s too early to update the sales forecasts for either Titanfall 2 or Battlefield 1, but they’re “very delighted” with how players are reacting to both. “Both are reviewing very well, and we expect them to sell strongly for a long time.”
