Microsoft’s Director of Programming Larry Hryb announced earlier today that Xbox users are now able to redeem game codes from their mobile devices through the Xbox app. Previously, the only other places to redeem codes were through Xbox.com and consoles like the Xbox One and 360.

Microsoft has been pumping out updates to the Xbox ecosystem lately as the Xbox One’s latest system update went live a couple days ago. The new update brought Cortana, Microsoft’s version of a virtual assistant, background music, and an updated game collection interface. Cortana is currently available in the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain, and the background music only applies to Pandora as Spotify remains a PlayStation exclusive.
It’s great that gamers can now download codes to their accounts through the Xbox App. All that’s left to do is for Microsoft to add a “download to console” feature to its service so users can have that new title waiting for them to play whenever they get home.
Are you excited to be able to redeem codes on the go? What options do you want to see added to the mobile app? Sound off in the comments below.
