This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Today, Friday October 30, 2015 marks the return of Destiny’s highly competitive PvP event: the Trials of Osiris.  As past of their weekly update, Bungie has enlightened us with all of the information we need to know for the new Taken King Trials of Osirs. For those of you who don’t always check out the weekly update or don’t won’t to search for Trials of Osiris info you need, we’ve highlighted it straight from Bungie’s post:

Trials of Osiris

  • Requires a minimum Character Level of 40
  • Requires a minimum Light of 251; Recommended Light is 290
  • Winning teams now receive Trials gear rewards directly at the end-of-match completion
  • Players that go undefeated on their Passage will continue to be invited to The Lighthouse
  • Players may continue to play in the Trials past 9 wins (but rewards are maxed out at 9 wins)
  • Trials Passages now have a Details page containing your Boons
    • Player must now purchase Boons from the Details page on their Passage instead of from Brother Vance
    • Boons can no longer be applied to Trials passages after starting a run
  • Trials gear can be purchased from Brother Vance (including some items found at the Lighthouse)
  • Brother Vance now has Bounties that award Legendary Marks
  • Crucible Bounties can now also be completed in Trials of Osiris
  • Matchmaking has been updated to make it more competitive to reach The Lighthouse

From this list, one of the most notable changes in the Trials of Osiris game play mechanics is the matchmaking update. In the weekly update, Senior Designer Derek Carroll explains how in the past, Trials of Osiris have been too easy because they did not use skill matching at all.

He comments on how there were groups that would either sell their services online or freely sherpa guardians to a 9-0 lighthouse victory despite a low level of skill. With these new changes, Lighthouse salesmen may be out of business as it’s possible all three of your teammates will need to be highly skilled competitor’s with the new matchmaking. But only fan feedback from after this weekend will tell us how it is for sure.

If you achieve victory in the Trials of Osiris, you have a chance to get drops for gear that is the same light levels as that of the King’s Fall Hard Mode Raid drops.

What do you think about the changes to the Trials of Osiris? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
