The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu included a chart for digital sales in Japan between October 29 and November 24, which is interesting as the magazine’s usual weekly figures focus exclusively on the physical market. The biggest releases for the month were Pokemon Sword & Shield and Death Stranding.
Hideo Kojima’s latest labor of love stands out for the percentage of digital sales, which was 31.7%. The game sold 109,375 units on the PlayStation Store in the period, bringing total sales up to 345,186.
Of course, this is dwarfed by Pokemon Sword & Shield, even if the latest title by GameFreak was shifted further toward physical sales.
It sold 629,636 copies digitally, for a total of 2,376,720 copies, with a digital ratio of 26.5%.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 sold 72,600 copies digitally, bringing the combined number up to 331,519.
Persona 5 Royal sold 60,473 copies digitally, pushing the combined total to 292,690.
The numbers for Romancing Saga 3 are interesting because it was not sold physically at all. This means that its digital sales are the total. It sold 53,288 copies on Nintendo Switch and 43,769 copies on PS4. That’s nearly 100,000 copies combined, but we don’t know how much it sold on other platforms.
This is a really good result for a remaster of such an old and fairly niche title.
Do keep in mind that Famitsu’s figures are estimates. While they’re considered fairly accurate, a margin of error always exists.
