The poise stat has been a real headache for some of the more hardcore players in the Dark Souls III fan base. Since the launch of the game, players have data mined the PC version trying to figure out exactly how poise is supposed to work in the third entry. Players have since found out that poise can indeed work like how it used to in Dark Souls (players wearing heavy armor are less likely to get staggered by attacks), but there was no way to get the mechanic to work in a legitimate manner when playing through the game normally.
From Software and Bandai Namco have since released a statement, clarifying that poise was “working as intended.” However, the latest patch notes for the game suggest that it was not, indeed, working as intended. Here’s the very first adjustment listed in the notes:
‘Adjusted poise values across the board. Poise is now more effective for heavier weapons and armor.’
Hopefully this means that all the Havel cosplayers out there will no longer be stun-locked by daggers and tiny swords.
Dark Souls III is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Ashes of Ariandel, its first DLC pack, will be releasing on October 25.
