Todd Howard is Pretty Psyched About Fallout 4 VR

You'll be able to play the whole dang thing.

We haven’t heard much about Fallout 4’s VR mode since its initial reveal at E3 2016, but Bethesda Game Studio’s Todd Howard has now assured us not only that it’s still happening, but will also be playable with the entire game.

“Fallout is going great. There’s a lot of work to be done, but it’s super exciting. We are doing the whole game,” Howard told Glixel in a recent interview. “You can play it start to finish right now, and the whole thing really works in terms of interface and everything.”

And by interface, Howard is primarily talking about the Pipboy, which in VR functions exactly the way you’d hope. “The Pip-Boy is on your wrist and we’ve been able to present so that it works the way you expect. You look and there it is,” he said.

Worries like motion sickness and first-person navigation are problems that many VR developers are still trying to figure out, but Howard said Fallout 4 has the benefits of its V.A.T.S. system and being a slower game.

“The fact that the gunplay is a bit slower than in a lot of games has certainly helped us but we have V.A.T.S., so you can pause or slow down the world,” he said. “I assure you, V.A.T.S. in VR is awesome. We love it.”

Glixel couldn’t quite squeeze a release date for Fallout 4 VR from Howard, but they suspect we’ll be hearing about it more “very soon.”
