Every year Star Wars Celebration brings fans of the series together, while providing hints and glimpses at what’s to come. This year the big focus at the Celebration in London is on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the next film in the series and the first anthology movie featured in the Star Wars film franchise. During the convention Lucasfilm and Disney gave us a new glimpse at footage from Rogue One, with a behind-the-scenes video featuring the cast and crew.
Rogue One takes place before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and focuses on a band of rebels, which includes Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, attempting to steal the Death Star plans before the Empire can use it to enforce their rule across the universe.
“It’s like the fantasy you always had as a kid. Everywhere is an amazing shot with amazing characters,” says one cast member.
The three minute video from the celebration shows a big focus on the practical effects used in Rogue One, and the weight that they add to the film. We also see quite a few shots of battle including one where the movie’s main character Jyn Erso is running through a battefeild holding some kind of disc or packet, what could presumably be the Death Star Plans. Rogue One’s setting seems to hop around between a few different planets, including one a bit more tropical than we’re used to seeing in Star Wars. There’s a rather striking shot of Stormtroopers walking through the shallow emerald waters of an ocean. Take a look at the full video down below.
Star Wars Celebration also gave us a look at a brand new poster for Rogue One, featuring a beach battle with the Death Star looming in the background. Things look like they’ll be pretty dire for our cast of heroes this time around, if the possible opening crawl we saw today is any indication.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16.
