I’m of the mind that fear isn’t based off of any pre-determined trigger. Sure, clowns are universally scary, but nightmares are all deeply personal, and there is a special curiosity with getting close to that which terrifies you most.
Those were just thoughts in my head as I was looking at REalM, an indie horror platformer from developers Arbor Sheep and Authentic Illusions. You see, graphics are all fine and well, but the games that interest me the most are usually those that can do more with less.
The summary is as follows: REalM stars a 17 year old girl named Iris who wakes up from a dream and finds herself in a dark, twisted new world.
REalM also happens to be the first “non-pilot phase” game up for approval on the Square Enix Collective page.
We wrote about their Collective program a couple weeks ago, and while some details were still murky, we can all agree that any program that brings promising games to the public is a good thing and REalM proves this. I highly recommend visiting their official site as well as their Collective page and go through some of the design materials for the game as it all looks incredibly promising and personally interesting. I’ve included a short teaser for the game as well links to their websites so browse around and keep an eye out when REalM releases for PC and PSN sometime this year.
