In an interview with Polish investment site Strefa Inwestorow, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński stated that the next big game from the studio, titled Cyberpunk 2077, will incorporate online elements to ensure “long-term success.”

Kiciński primarily discussed what the future holds for the firm, stating that both Gwent and Cyberpunk serve as integral projects to drive CD Projekt Red forward. Roughly translated, the man states, “We want to experiment in new fields that were not yet explored in the Witcher. I can’t say much about Cyberpunk, although our ambitions are set really high because that is our style of work. We want to go even higher, and especially seeing how we’re having a business chat, we’re interested in Cyberpunk being commercially even more significant.”

He went on to mention that he hopes Cyberpunk 2077 ends up being more financially successful than anything the studio has worked on in the past, going so far as to indicate that having an online component will help guarantee Cyberpunk’s profitability in the long run.

“Online is necessary, or very recommended if you wish to achieve long-term success,”  Kiciński stated. “At some point, we have mentioned that there will be a certain online element related to Cyberpunk.”

The incorporation of online elements in Cyberpunk 2077 is somewhat of a departure considering the fact that the last major entry in the Witcher series was purely a single-player experience. This being said, Gwent relies heavily on its multiplayer aspect, so it’s unsurprising that the company may want to include online gameplay in its next game.
