Techland Lives up to Its Name: Dying Light 2 May Require a New Console Generation

"Your meager consoles are no match for the power and ambition of Techland! Muhahahaha!" - Unconfirmed Techland quote

In a interview with VideoGamer.com, Tymon Smektala, producer at Techland, informs Dying Light 2 could be too much to handle for the current generation. “Lots of very ambitious ideas” float around at Techland for a potential Dying Light sequel, but these ideas need several stress tests to see if they “are even doable with the tech that the current consoles provide.”

Smektala also notes sequel talks to its early January 2015 game is far too early to go into specifics. Prototypes of these concepts need to be made and assessed at Techland before ideas become marketable features. Full quotes from Smektala are below.

“Of course, we’re not talking about [Dying Light 2] just yet…but the reason for that is that it is too early. We have lots of very ambitious ideas so [sic] first we need to check if these ideas are even doable with the tech that the current consoles provide.

We also need to check if our concepts are really as good as we think they are, so we need to prototype things. So there is nothing to talk about, and on the other hand [sic] there are lots of things going inside our studio where we test, prototype and experiment with stuff. But I think right now we have a very clear idea of what we can do with the IP and with the universe of Dying Light, so expect good things from us.”

Good things are coming out of Techland it sounds like. A new DLC expansion for Dying Light was just announced exiting the city and into a vehicle. “The Following” brings customizable dune buggies, over a dozen hours of activities, and other inclusions.

It’s no secret Dying Light brought out the best out of Techland critically and commercially, selling over five million copies and countless positive reviews such as Twinfinite’s. What wild and crazy would you expect from a Dying Light sequel with next-generation tech?

Jetpacking zombies, of course.
