Previously, Compulsion Games’ We Happy Few was denied classification for release in Australian by the Australian Classification Review Board. Luckily, it looks like that decision has been overturned, thanks to an appeal by Compulsion Games. The Board has decided to offer an R 18+ rating for the game, which now means it will be sold in the country, and the decision has been overturned.
“We went to a great deal of effort to get this decision overturned. We Happy Few will be rated R18+ in Australia,” said Compulsion in an official statement on its blog post. “We are extremely pleased with the decision of the board and excited that our Australian fans and new players will be able to experience We Happy Few without modification.”
Previously, by denying a classification for the game, it was just as good as banned for sale in the country, as all games must carry a certification if they’re going to be up for sale. It’s certainly a win for gamers in Australia, who would have otherwise missed out on the upcoming dystopian title that’s on its way out at some point this year. It had previously been banned in the first place thanks to its usage of the drug “Joy,” which characters take as a means of control from the government.
Great news, all around!
