In Bethesda’s Starfield Space Travel Feels “Dangerous;” It’s a Game But Has “Authenticity”

During a panel at the E3 Coliseum live coverage on YouTube,  Bethesda Game Studios Director and Executive Producer Todd Howard talked about the upcoming space game Starfield.

Howard mentioned that everyone needs to be patient about the game, but what he can say is that the team is approaching the game so that it’s a game but it still has authenticity. It’s something that could actually happen.

The team talked about what kind of fuel starships use, and that’s Helium 3, and how the physics and gravity works in space. Of course, they have to “gamify” that some, so that it’s not as punishing as actual space travel.

In the game traveling in space feels “dangerous, like flying in the forties.” It’s dangerous to go out and explore even though lots of people do it.

The game was announced at E3 2018 alongside The Elder Scrolls VI, but it was not showcased at this year’s press conference by Bethesda.

During the same panel, Howard announced that Bethesda’s free-to-play mobile game Fallout Shelter will be made available to play in Tesla’s electric cars.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what Starfield will be like, but it feels like we’ll have to wait a long time before we can see something solid about the game.
