Riot Games Wins $10 Million Lawsuit

Riot Games won't stand for cheaters.

The company behind the massively popular League of Legends, Riot Games has won a lawsuit they filed against Leaguesharp. Leaguesharp was a scripting/hacking service providing its clients with unfair advantages in-game. As a result, this also allowed players to quickly level up accounts for sales purposes. Leaguesharp reportedly made profits upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars a month.

According to PC Gamer, the following message was on Leaguesharp’s website and was eventually removed (though it can still be found in their source code):

“As some of you may know, Riot Games has filed a lawsuit against LeagueSharp and has made it clear to us that LeagueSharp violates their Terms of Use. As a result of our lawsuit with Riot, we have agreed to cease development and support for LeagueSharp and any other tools related to Riot Games,” the company wrote on its website. “You also should be aware that using third-party tools in League of Legends may result in the suspension or banning of your account by Riot Games. We apologize for any pain we’ve caused to players of League of Legends.”

In addition to the settlement money, Leaguesharp was forced to shut down, as it directly violates Riot Games’ Terms of Use. Riot was also granted ownership of Leaguesharp’s website (though it’s not clear what they’ll be doing with it). This marks a solid victory for both Riot and League of Legends players, as scripting seems to be a bit more common than previous years.
