Today Media Create shared its weekly charts, and they marked a new sales milestones for the PS4 on the Japanese market.
According to Media Create’s estimates, last week Sony’s console sold-through (combining PS4 Pro and standard PS4) 34,895 units, and combined with historical data from the same source, we learn that it’s now sitting on 8,024,939 units.
Since this is a sold-through figure, it means units that have been purchased by customers, and not just shipped to retailers.
At the moment of this writing, the PS4 is still the best-selling current-gen console on the Japanese market, but this primacy will likely not last for long. Nintendo’s Switch draws close with every passing week, and it’s now at 7,749,855 units sold as of March 24 according to Media Create’s estimates.
At this pace, it’ll probably overtake the rival console in around two to three months, week more or week less.
That being said, the PS4 is still by far the best selling console on a worldwide base. We recently learned that it sold-through to customers 91.6 Million Units as of December 31, 2018, and while shipments were at 94.2 million by the same date. By comparison, Nintendo announced that the Switch was at 32.27 million shipments by December 31.
