Nintendo Switch Has Sold Over 20 Million Units in Japan According to Famitsu’s Estimates

Today the Japanese magazine Famitsu reported on its website that the Nintendo Switch has passed a sales milestone in Japan.

According to the report, the console has now sold-through to customers over 20 million units in the country. More precisely, it’s at 20,018,278 as of May 30.

Do keep in mind that this is an estimate by Famitsu likely based on aggregated data from retailers, so it shouldn’t be considered 100% official.

Famitsu also provides the local sales of the top-5 games for Switch as of May 23. Of course, they’re all first-party Nintendo games.

The Nintendo Switch has been extremely popular in Japan since its launch, causing months of shortages that continued well into the console’s life cycle and occasionally popped up again even at later timeframes.

If you’re more interested in worldwides sales. The console has shipped to retailers 84.59 million units as of March 31, with Nintendo’s estimate of sell-through to customers as of the same date at 81 million units.

According to Nintendo’s own projections, the console could ship 110.09 million units to retailers by March 2022 if the company manages to achieve its sales goals.
