Star Wars Battlefront was a reboot of the series that launched ahead of The Force Awakens back in 2015. The game was praised for its fantastic graphics and ability to make players feel like they’re in the Star Wars universe but it was criticized for lacking depth such as featuring no single-player campaign and only a handful of maps.
EA has since stated it has learned its lessons from the original game and it seems Star Wars Battlefront 2 is shaping up to be a lot better. In a recent video posted by PlayStation that featured a roundtable of the Battlefront 2 developers, DICE producer Craig McLeod admitted the original game had issues and how the new one will fix that.
“A lot of people found that with the original Battlefront, after a few months of play, they lacked the long-term goals,” he said. “So these are the things that we are really trying to make sure we nail in this new game.”
The first game only featured locations and characters from the original series (and later from the movie Rogue One) but Battlefront 2 will see characters and locations from all eras of the Star Wars films. A full single-player campaign is promised and the game will feature a more in-depth progression system in order to give players a reason to keep playing. It’s sounding very promising.
“The ambition here that we’ve managed to achieve is something I never thought would be able to be realised when I worked in games,” said McLeod. “I am just incredibly proud of that.”
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is set to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17. A beta is set to go live in October.
