Game of Thrones is currently in its seventh season with the 3rd episode set to air this upcoming Sunday. But if you are already looking ahead to the future of the popular HBO drama, it was announced at TCA Press Tour that the finale of Game of Thrones is already written and is now just waiting to be filmed and watched.

Season 8 will mark the end of the current Game of Thrones series, although four spin-offs are being considered by HBO, and Season 8 will also have the least amount of episodes, with only six in total. However, as stated by Paula Fairfield, a few of the Season 7 episodes will be running longer than an hour so the same could be true for the final season. Currently, nothing has been confirmed other than that the Season 8 scripts are complete and have been written by Dave HillBryan Cogman, with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss writing the last four episodes.

But just because the scripts are done doesn’t mean there is a confirmed date for when the season will be airing. Casey Bloys, who is the programming president of HBO stated: “They’re trying to get a sense of how long it’s going to take them to shoot this.”

That could mean fans may not have to wait longer than a year, but it could also mean that the series finale will be pushed back until 2019 as the creators begin to storyboard Season 8 and plan for production.

Despite the news of Season 8 being written and that a select few in the world know how it will end, you can continue watching Season 7 this weekend when “The Queen’s Justice” airs July 30.
