Fortnite’s Voice Chat Software on Switch Is Now Available for All Third-Party Developers

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Do you guys know the voice chat software that games like Fortnite and Paladins use on the Nintendo Switch? Well, Vivox, the company behind the tech that allows third-parties to implement voice chat without Nintendo’s terrible mobile app, has announced that they will be releasing a software development kit (SDK) for all Switch developers to use.

Right now, anyone can jump into Fortnite, join a game with anyone, and –as long as you have a microphone plugged in– can directly voice chat with no hassles or annoying applications. Other titles such as Paladins and Smite will also be using this voice software soon with future updates.

First-party Nintendo multiplayer games like Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate require the use of the Switch Online voice app that requires you to not only use your smartphone microphone, but it has to be used with friends only. It’s not the best way for people to connect with the people they are playing online with, but thanks to Vivox, all third-party developers can now implement voice chat into their multiplayer games easily.

Venture Beat spoke with Vivox on the matter at hand, and here’s what a spokesperson had to say on the software being available for everyone developing on Switch:

We are always trying to expand our services to more developers, and the Nintendo Switch has clearly become a solid online gaming platform for users and developers.

We wanted to make sure we would have a product that would deliver the best possible voice chat experience to Switch users, and that was what we’ve been focused on.”

Vivox also supports cross-play for voice chat on Switch, so here’s hoping that all future third-party multiplayer games implement this software.

Heck, maybe even Nintendo will catch on and stop with the voice app as well; that would be incredibly interesting to see one day since Nintendo is always trying to protect children from random people spouting nonsense and profanities online.
