Ubisoft has recently come under fire for their Shadow Heritage DLC in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in which players were seemingly forced into a heterosexual relationship, regardless of their choices. Ubisoft has now announced they will be tweaking a cutscene to address the issue.
The announcement came from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s public forum where a community manager addressed the player feedback and announced that a change will arrive in an upcoming patch. Here is the quote:
“After hearing player feedback and discussing within the development team we are making changes to a cutscene and some dialogue in Shadow Heritage to better reflect the nature of the relationship for players selecting a non-romantic storyline. These changes, along with renaming a trophy/achievement, are being made now and will be implemented in an upcoming patch.
We’ve also been carefully looking at the next episode, Bloodline, to ensure the paths that players experience mirror the choices they make in game.”
This controversy arose from Ubisoft’s story decision for the main character to have a child, which led players who were playing homosexual or non-romantic characters to feel left out. In a previous statement, Ubisoft apologized and admitted that they “missed the mark.”
It’s not yet clear when this change will be made, or what the solution will be. However, Ubisoft stated that they wanted to present both utilitarian and romantic options for having a child, so it’s likely the revised scene will focus on the utilitarian angle.
The upcoming Bloodline will be the third and final episode of this DLC arc for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey before they shift to the second arc, The Fate of Atlantis, which will also feature three episodes.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is currently available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Players can purchase the current DLC arc, Legacy of the First Blade on its own or as part of the season pass. For more on Assassin’s Creedy Odyssey, check out our guide wiki and review.
