Capcom Files For Onimusha Trademarks in Multiple Countries

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

It’s been more than a decade since Onimusha fans have gotten their hands on a new mainline release in the series, but that may be changing soon as Capcom has registered for the name to be trademarked in Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and through the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

Whether this actually means we’ll be getting a new game in the series anytime soon remains unknown, as Capcom may just be keeping paperwork updated, but either way it’s a good signs for fans that the franchise hasn’t been entirely forgotten about.

The trademarks in question were filed to cover physical and digital video games and associated items such as music or merchandise, and were all filed for in early April.

Onimusha fans should remember Capcom released a browser game, Onimusha: Soul, in 2012 that eventually came to mobile devices and the PlayStation 3. But for a full mainline game in the franchise we have to look back to 2006, with the release of Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, the sixth overall installment in the series.

You can find the trademark filings themselves over at the World Intellectual Property Organization, but someone over at ResetEra has already taken the time to screenshot the recent Capcom filings.
