Zelda Breath of the Wild: Should You Get Health or Stamina?

Health or Stamina – Zelda Breath of the Wild

Recommended Videos

Link doesn’t start off with a lot of health or stamina in Breath of the Wild. While stamina is great for longer climbs and swims, health is also important as it allows you to tank hits from more powerful enemies. In order to increase one or the other, you’ll need to acquire four Spirit Orbs from completing Shrines, and offer them to a nearby goddess.

At the start of the game, I’d highly recommend going for more heart containers. Three hearts isn’t a lot of health to work with, and you’ll definitely want the extra hearts to survive your early exploration of Hyrule. Not to mention, you can always cook food with stamina regen properties. Cooked food also heals up a lot of hearts, so you’ll want to get more heart containers to make full use of that food you’ve been making. The Master Sword also requires you to have a total of 13 hearts, so that’s another reason to go with health.

That said, you will gain a bonus heart container for every main dungeon you beat, so that’s four hearts you can get without the need for Spirit Orbs. I recommend getting up to nine hearts with Spirit Orbs, then completing the dungeons for the remaining four to get your Master Sword. After reaching your nine hearts, the rest of your Spirit Orbs can go towards stamina instead, unless, of course, you’d feel much more comfortable with even more health.
