Where Jesus Christ Superstar Was Filmed
Jesus Christ Superstar is a 1973 musical drama film that stars actors Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, Barry Dennen, Yvonne Elliman, Kurt Yaghjian, and Bob Bingham. The plot centers around the conflict between Jesus and Judas before the week of the crucifixion. Most of the movie features locations with plenty of sand, and some fans might be wondering where production actually filmed the musical flick.
The movie was actually shot around the ruins in Israel and several other Middle Eastern locations. Specifically, “Trial Before Caiaphas” was filmed at the Herodian fortresses near Bethlehem. Meanwhile, “The Crucifixion” and “The Temple” were shot at Advat, while “What’s The Buzz” was literally filmed under the Dead Sea in the Beit Guvrin Bell Caves. Meanwhile, the crew set up a shop on the Dead Sea for “King Herod’s Song,” which, quite interestingly, was where Herold actually had a summer palace. Finally, “Trial Before Pilate” and “Superstar” were both filmed in an ancient Roman amphitheater in Beit ‘Shaan.
While Jesus Christ Superstar has had a successful movie adaptation, the musical is better known as a rock opera. For more interesting tidbits on all things entertainment, make sure to search for Twinfinite!
