How to Get Oil in They Are Billions

Recommended Videos

In the PC strategy game They Are Billions, players must construct a city to fend off hordes of zombies. While players are expanding their cities for the first time, they may run into weird little pools of water that have steam coming out of them. It may not look it, but those are oil pools, one of the most powerful resources in the game. Oil is what powers many late game units and lets you upgrade some buildings to their highest level. Once you get to the late game, the resource is mandatory for success. Here’s how you can get oil, and how to use it.

Late in the game, once you’ve unlocked the foundry building through research and built it, you can research refineries. By building an oil refinery on a pool, you can get 10 oil every eight in-game hours.  The refinery, once researched, can be found by clicking your command center or the shortcut at the bottom right of the screen to open your build menu. From there, the production menu can be found in the middle of the top row. The oil refinery will show up at the bottom of the menu.

In They Are Billions, you can get advanced units, also researched through the foundry, which require oil to be built and take a small bit of your production for upkeep. However, in the case you lose a refinery and your production count goes into the negative, your units won’t just disappear. This means that early on, if you get lucky and a mayor (acquired by increasing your number of workers) lets you get a late game unit early like the Thanatos or the Lucifer, you don’t have to worry about losing it because you have a negative oil income. If you get one of these units from a mayor, actually using them might be the wrongs strategy because units like the Thanatos make lots of noise which attract tons of zombies, which your settlement might not be ready for early on in the game.

Although the resource won’t help you early on, its smart to keep an eye out for the pools as you expand your city so you’re prepared for the future.
