Sea of Thieves: All Skeleton Types & How to Beat Them

Sea of Thieves: All Skeleton Types

Recommended Videos

Sea of Thieves is the open world pirate adventure from Rare which allows players to team up, sing sea shanties and sail the seven seas. There are a bunch of quests to complete in order to earn gold and reputation, many of which involve slaying Skeletons. There are a few different types of said Skeletons to contend with, from grunts to captains. Here are all of them:

  • Ordinary Skeleton – These are the most common enemy in the game and are often seen rising out of the ground to attack the player. They can use cutlasses, pistols and blunderbusses as well as fire from cannons. They generally spawn in groups of 2 or 3 and cannot spawn in water. Ordinary Skeletons that spawn as part of Bounty Quests or Fortress Raids wear blue bandannas.
  • Gold Skeleton – These Skeletons are slower and have a large amount of health. They are able to do a moderate amount of damage so your main priority should be luring them into water or throwing it onto them using buckets, which will cause them to rust. When rusted, Gold Skeletons will be more vulnerable to attacks and therefore easier to defeat.
  • Green Skeleton – These will have plant growths sprouting from their bodies. They are fairly easy to defeat but can heal in water so keep them away from the sea at all costs.
  • Skeleton Captain – These Skeletons can command others and have much more health. They appear at the end of Bounty Quests and Fortress Raids, dropping Bounty Skulls or Vault Keys, quest items which can be handed in for a reward.
  • Shadow Skeleton – Appearing as an Ordinary Skeleton by day, the Shadow Skeleton becomes invulnerable at night. Your only option is to wait until day time or shine a lantern at them, following up with an attack while they are vulnerable.

So there you have it, every type of Skeleton you’ll encounter in Sea of Thieves. For more on why you should check out Sea of Thieves, click here, or check out our wiki for more tips and tricks.
