If there’s one thing you’re going to be doing plenty of in Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s traveling. The game has a huge map, so prepare to spend plenty of time in the desert. You’ll be putting your feet to good work or traveling around on horseback to get around faster.

That said, here’s how to travel around easier in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Running in Red Dead Redemption 2

Walking can get a bit tedious, but there are a few ways you can speed up traveling when on foot. Firstly, you can hold down X to make Arthur sprint at an average speed, which won’t drain your stamina.

If holding down X isn’t cutting it  for you, you can tap X instead to run at full speed in Red Dead Redemption 2. Take note, however, that this method will start to drain his stamina. If it drops too low, give him a moment to catch his breath before tapping the sprint button.

It’s worth noting that there isn’t an auto run mechanic in Red Dead Redemption 2, so you’ll have to stick to sprinting instead. Moreover, you can’t mark a destination on your map and watch Arthur walk there.

How to Auto Ride

Traveling on horseback is a bit easier than walking in Red Dead Redemption 2. For starters, there’s actually an auto ride function when traveling with other characters.

When on the road with your NPC allies, simply hold down X to travel in formation. You won’t have to worry about going too fast or getting left behind. That’s pretty much the auto ride mechanic in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Like with walking, however, you cannot mark a spot on your map and watch Arthur follow a path towards it. You will still need to manually control your character if you want to head to a certain spot.

If you’re traveling from town to town, grabbing a horse is definitely the best way to go. They’re much faster than walking and keep you company on your long treks through the desert.
