Pokemon Sword & Shield: How to Get Own Tempo Rockruff

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Rockruff is one of the most popular and iconic Pokemon from Sun and Moon. It’s no surprise then that as players move to the (usually) sunny beaches of the Isle of Armor that we’d start to see some Alolan Pokemon sneak over the border of Galar. In this guide, we’re going to go over how to get a Rockruff with Own Tempo in Pokemon Sword and Shield. If you’re here you probably already know that getting this particular Rockruff is part of the way to get a Dusk Form Rockruff.

How to Get an Own Tempo Rockruff in Pokemon Sword and Shield

So let’s break down a couple of things first before we dive into the way to get a Rockruff with Own Tempo.

Own Tempo is the hidden ability of Rockruff, which prevents it from getting confused, and at least as of Sword and Shield, it isn’t something that you can just easily find out in the wilds of Galar.

Like other hidden abilities in Pokemon Sword and Shield, the only way to consistently farm them (until you get at least one) is to catch max raid battle Pokemon and cross your fingers that you got the hidden ability. If Rockruff appears in a max raid battle, you could find one with the Own Tempo ability if you’re lucky.

If you don’t have Isle of Armor or are very down on your luck trying to find Rockruff with Own Tempo, your only other options are going to be trade or transfer.

You can use Pokemon Home to transfer a Rockruff with Own Tempo that you caught previously into Sword and Shield. Or, alternatively, if you have a friend that has one or find a kind stranger, you can trade for one the old fashioned way.

The bright side is once you have at least one Own Tempo Rockruff, you can consistently breed more of them with a Ditto so you don’t have to go through this whole process again.

That’s all you need to know for how to get a Rockruff with Own Tempo in Pokemon Sword and Shield: Isle of Armor. For help on how to get a Dusk Form Lycanroc, check out our guide for that here.
